I Was Right. Damn.

Apparently my impression from Thursday was correct. Early yesterday morning, I was called into the office to be gently let down and told that one of the other three interviewees got the job. I'm going to keep the post short today. Despite every effort to keep myself from getting my hopes up, the possibility of not being in a classroom next year was too alluring. I really wish I could have just gone home and spent the day on the couch watching movies. Instead, I still had my whole workday to get through on autopilot because, obviously, my head was not in the game anymore. I don't want to spend an entire post bringing people down. I'm sure a single paragraph of this self-pitying tripe is enough.

But thanks for all the good wishes and encouragement. A lot of the comments came through after I was told I wasn't the guy for the job, so your comments were sort of like charming and well-mannered daggers. They may have cut my temporarily thin skin a little, but they complimented me and chatted about the weather while they did so, so it was okay. I still appreciated them, despite that. In fact, they gave me the excuse to craft that polite dagger simile. Just writing it cheered me up a little.

Ugh. Sucks. Sorry to hear it, Jacob.

Hopefully it's for the best -- e.g. you may find some other, better opportunity in the not-too-distant future.

Sorry.

The problem is they think you're too good in the classroom, so you need to start sucking as a teacher. Just kidding, please don't do that! Sorry you didn't get the job, but as Chris said, maybe there's something better.

Sorry, Jacob. You can come up to Knoxville if you want and we'll throw a little pity party in honor of our broken dreams.

I hope something works out soon.

That blows. I'm sorry to hear it. I am happy that you are not pregnant, though (no offense, Meaghan). When you first mentioned a big appointment, I thought you might be. These things usually are viral. Watching that pregnant guy on Oprah really creeped me out and I like you too much to be skeeved out like that by you.
