About The Author

Some of you may need to know a few things about me to fully understand my posts. When I started, nearly all of my readers were friends who knew the back story already. New readers don't have the luxury. Following is a list of important details about me and my blog.

  1. I'm a high school teacher, but unhappy with my choice of career.
  2. I'm a former journalist, but left for better hours and pay. Yes, I did actually become a teacher for the pay.
  3. I live in a very rural section of the southeastern United States in the house my grandfather built less than a mile from the house my great-grandfather built.
  4. I regret moving back home a little, and plan to move closer to an urban area eventually, but have no set plans.
  5. I coach high school tennis and have recently begun to play again competitively in USTA leagues and tournaments. That does not mean I'm an expert and I don't claim to be one. I am, however, passionate about the sport.
  6. Other interests that you'll see pop up on a regular basis here: Backpacking/camping, American football, NHL hockey, food/cooking, craft beer, homebrewing, travel, geeky music, and reading.
  7. I tend to be obsessive and geeky about any interest.
  8. I have chickens in my back yard.
  9. I write this blog as an outlet for my writing. It's much easier to make myself write when I have an audience.
  10. This blog has no theme, partly because I think themes are usually stupid or limited. This blog is a textual version of myself, meaning I may sandwich a post about genetics or history between a joke post and a post about my personal life. I do try to keep the humor posts at a 1 to 1 ratio to the rest of the topics, mainly because no one else really cares about anything that isn't funny. I don't guarantee the real ratio will be anywhere close to that, however.
The cast:

  1. K: My wife. We met in college and have been together for more than a decade now.
  2. E: My two-year-old son.
  3. Chris, Meaghan, Mickey, and Courtney: College friends who are also bloggers represented in my blog roll.
  4. Julie: Another college friend who doesn't blog. She comments frequently enough to earn a spot here.
  5. Hank: A friend I've had since the fifth grade. He blogs about computer programming stuff.
If there's anything else you need to know to better understand my blog, feel free to ask a question in the comments. If it's a good enough question, the answer may make this list.

What is Chicken Fried Steak, and how is it relevant to society today? Does the president have gingivitis, and if so, what kind of toothpaste and/or mouthwash should he use?
