Reality TV That Doesn't Kill the Souls of Little Babies

Apparently at least one reality TV show actually improved society, at least in The Netherlands where it aired. The Big Donor Show showed patients in need of a kidney transplant competing for the rights to the kidneys of a terminally ill patient.

Sounds horrible even for a reality TV show, right? It's exploitation of needy people at it's most base right? Probably true, except that on the airing of this show 12,000 people, three times more than the monthly average, signed up to be organ donors in the country.

So finally there is a reality TV show that does something to improve the society that gave it birth. Well, not really. It turns out that the show was a hoax, almost entirely made up. True, the contestants were in need of kidney transplants, but they knew the show was fake from the beginning, and the terminally ill donor-to-be was a healthy actress. So it looks like reality television is still almost entirely devoid of cultural worth.
