It Had to Be Mine

E is attending vacation Bible school at a local Baptist church this week. This may seem odd considering the fact that both K and E are Eastern Orthodox and I'm sans religion, but the preacher's wife is the lady who keeps E for us while we're at work and most of his daycare buddies were going to be there as well, so we accepted the invitation for this week.

Anyway, we dropped him off and then went out to eat. When we went back to the church to pick him up, E was running around the church social hall without any pants on. As far as I know, this wasn't some arcane Baptist ritual. E was the only kid in the church running around in his underwear. At least he still had his sneakers on.

The moral of this story? When you put a Greek Orthodox in a Southern Baptist house of worship, the Orthodox gentleman's pants will disappear. It's magic, but I have no idea what it means.

Funny you were happy about the shoes. I would have been happy he was still wearing the underwear.

I'm also not aware of any such Baptist ritual, although the Baptists are a splintered and diverse bunch. Glad to hear he wasn't handling snakes at least.

You mean you're not supposed to take your pants off in Baptist churches? Uh-oh. I may have made some bad impressions.

Jeez, Courtney, women aren't even supposed to wear pants in a Baptist church. You doubly offended.

So is E aware of his choice of religion then? I guess the pantslessness makes that pretty obvious. The Babtists must have been aghast. Wait 'til he starts drinking beer and chasing skirts.

Kids don't have a choice and most people pretty much stay what they were raised. K is Orthodox and E was baptized as a baby as an Orthodox, so that's pretty much what he is.

I exert no influence, nor do I really want to. Other than personal ethics and morals, I have nothing to convince him of.

It's OK, when he's 18 he'll tell you both where to stick it and start practicing Hindu.

Just kidding... kinda. I mean, it could happen. But you'll still love him and support him. That's one reason you are good parents.

So it someone actually bother to explain to you why your kid was running around without any pants.
